I think that if we were to speed up the growth of a tree, the creation of year rings would resemble ripples in water. Water is a medium that allows people to see phenomena that would otherwise be impossible to grasp using our temporal sense. Expanding and disappearing in a moment, it offers us a glimpse of a ‘tree’ that in reality takes place on a timescale so long it is invisible.

 

 

 

Using the shape of a lifeless tree stump to resemble a “vessel” and thereby create an occasion for re-examining water, I began to feel in the temporary locations of water that constantly moves around on the Earth places of new departures.
