Matches of Flame

I designed a apaper match in the shape of
the Japanese Kanji 火 (fire). When the match is lit
and the real fire is placed over or under the image
of 火, it produces the kanij 炎 (flames).
I wanted to return the kanji 火, which only encodes the fundamental image
of burning and is not the real thing, back into the actual phenomenon of burning.
I perceived the match itself, which can reproduce fire so easily, as approximating
smoething that could be described as image reproduction equipment.
