It occurred to me that if adrop of water fell in acontainer shaped like
a tree stump that was full of water, the resulting ripple pattern would
resemble the annual growth rings of a tree. From our human time perspective,
we can’t see the growth of trees in terms of movement. However, if we could
change the time scale, I imagine that the growth and multiplication of trees
might appearas instantaneous as the formation of the ripple pattern in the water.

When I tried to move the completed bucker filled with water, it was so heavy
that I couldn’t pick it up. I wondered when it had put roots into the ground.
Ordinarily, the shape of a bucket is gradually narrower approaching the bottom
to minimize the amount of water you can put in it. In addition, buckets are
this inconspicuous ingenuity very impressive.
